Family for Beginners by Sarah Morgan

Sometimes a book will surprise you. Family for Beginners was such a book. It made me think about grief and different things we grieve. We can grieve loss of friendships just as hard as grieving loss of family.

Flora is lonely and has been since her mother died when she was very young. She lived with an aunt who looked at Flora as “unwanted baggage.” Flora has never forgotten that feeling. She lives in a tiny NYC apartment near the florist where she works. She has one good friend but they are in different phases of life and don’t share much outside of work. Until one day when Flora and her friend make up scenarios about the man staring in the florist window. When Jack enters the shop, Flora’s life changes in ways she never thought possible. A trip to the Lake District in England with Jack and his girls gives Flora a chance to see what family is all about. The good and bad. You just have to decide if the good outweighs the bad moments.

Mostly clean romance until the last 80ish pages then a couple of semi steamy scenes. A good summer read for fans of family dramas.
