Could you find it in yourself to give someone a second chance? What if that someone embezzled money to help a family member? What if that someone left you to face the consequences by yourself?

Debbie Macomber’s, Any Dream Will Do, follows Shay from her moment she embezzled money to “save” her brother to trying to get her life back together after a 3 year stint in prison. Macomber does a terrific job in showing all sides of what someone faces when they reenter society after time in prison. The ups and downs of trusting, making friends and learning to love.

One of my favorite aspects of this novel is the voice Macomber used. As I was reading, it almost felt as if I was reading a true story. The novel is told from both Shay’s and Drew’s first person point of view. You feel as if you are sitting in a cozy living room face to face with the characters and listening to them telling you the story.

Macomber makes the reader think how they approach similar situations in their life. Her use of faith is great. Mainstream fiction tries to shy away from having to much faith talk in it but I find myself as a reader looking for it more. Any Dream Will Do has a faith based plot but it is not overwhelming. I would recommend this novel to everyone I see. This book will be with me for some time.

The Blessing (Amish Cooking Class #2) by Wanda E. Brunstetter

Wanda E. Brunstetter never disappoints in providing a heartwarming read.

In book two of The Amish Cooking Class, she introduces 6 new members of Heidi’s Saturday morning cooking classes. Heidi is able to teach her students some new Amish recipes as well as share God’s word.

My favorite character is teenager Nicole. Since her mom left she has become the “mom” of the household and cooks all the meals. Her family is ready for some new dishes and her dad finds Heidi’s class. Over six weeks Nicole will learn more than cooking from Heidi. Will forgiveness be one of her learning experiences?

My least favorite character is Todd. Why? Because he is so full of himself. At times I found myself yelling at him to get over himself. Will Heidi be able to teach him that the world does not revolve around him?

I loved that Wanda brought back Kendra throughout the entire book. I cannot wait to see if she continues her story in the next book. I want to know what happens with the new love interest in Kendra’s life. (Hint, Hint)

I cannot wait to try the recipes in the back of the book, especially Chicken in a Crumb Basket. It sounds yummy and I think my picky teenager might even like it.

Mary’s Home (#3 The Peace in the Valley) by Jerry S. Eicher

After enjoying the first two books in The Peace in the Valley series I was disappointed with this book. The idea behind the story is good but the delivery was lacking. There was too much going on with both Mary and Betsy’ s story. Though at the same time there slow, drawn out sections. The story ended very abruptly as if the author was tired of writing.

I would recommend the first two books but not the third.

Phoebe’s Gift by Jerry E. Eicher Peace in the Valley #2

The second installment of The Peace in the Valley series is a good story with a great motto: the more you believe in yourself the more you can accomplish.

After the passing of her beloved grandma, Phoebe must decide if she will return home to Lancaster or stay and turn the farm into her grandmother’s dream of a healing farm for mistreated children. A terrible action in Phoebe’s childhood has caused her to lose her self-confidence. Will her neighbor David help her to find it again? Will Phoebe help David convince his sister, Ruth, to not jump the fence to the English world?

I’m quickly becoming a fan of Jerry S. Eicher’s work. He is able to the Lord’s words and apply it to every day obstacles without making one feel they are reading a heavy sermon. He makes you think about your life and how you should apply the lesson to yourself.

I had one complaint with this book. The beginning was a bit confusing. I had to reread paragraphs several times to fully understand what was happening. Phoebe’s waffling within herself made me feel waffled. Other than that another great book for teens and adults.

Tempest in a Teapot by Amanda Cooper (A Teapot Collector Mystery #1)

Sophie has decided to move to her grandma’s in upstate New York after her restaurant fizzles and help her grandma with her tearoom. Next door one time best friend of grandma Rose, Thelma has opened her own tearoom with limited success. While Thelma is hosting an engagement tea for her granddaughter, the future mother in law is murdered. Sophie decides to investigate while getting reacquainted with her summer friends.

I enjoyed this book and want to continue reading the series but I’m sure you are wondering why 3.5 stars? It starts out quick and ends spectacularly but the middle was a tad sluggish. A few times my interest was not there.

Sophie is a very likable character and feels like someone you would run into on the street. She’s caring and doesn’t appear to be hung up on herself. She is just trying to figure out her life after the devastating blow of closing her restaurant.

I am left with one question: what ever happened to the dead mother in law’s cat?

Do you trust God enough to direct you toward your soul mate? Do you trust God enough to lead you to another great love after you’ve been widowed? These are the great questions that Arlene, Joseph, Isaiah and Esther must answer.

Esther and her daughter move to the Amish district where Isaiah is a minister. Esther must trust that Isaiah is the husband she longs for and the dad that her daughter needs. Will a disagreement over flowers derail their love?

Joseph moves to the district with his son after his wife died from cancer. Arlene has her heart on saving him and his son from starvation and a dirty house by making Joseph fall in love with her. Can their love bloom through the harshness of Arlene’s words about his love of roses?

I’ve not read much of Jerry S. Eicher so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I enjoyed this book. The writing is easy to read and the plot moves between the two romances seamlessly. This is a clean romance for any teen or adult.

The Nearness of You by Dorothy Garlock

A thoroughly enjoyable book set in the 1930s and 1950s. Dorothy Garlock has a writing style that I can only describe as classical beauty. As the reader you fall into the story and become one with the characters.

The main character, Lily, finds herself at a crossroads in life. Should she stay in Hooper’s Crossing and stay the librarian or move to NYC with her best friend? As she is making her decision she befriends a Life photographer during the famous fall festival and finds herself falling in love. Will he be the reason she leaves?

I have never been disappointed with a Dorothy Garlock book and you make it about a small town librarian and I’m hooked.

Whether this is your first Garlock book or your 20th you will not be disappointed.

Naomi’s Hope by Jan Drexler

I would have given 3.5 stars if the option was available. The reason for 3/3.5 stars is the book started out very slowly for me. The blurb made the book sound so good I kept at it but it did not pick up for me until a little over a quarter of the way through it. The last forty percent of the book was very good.

A few years before the book starts Naomi adopted a young boy, Davey, her and her family found hiding in his family’s chimney after a tornado destroyed the property and killed his family. They have since moved to LaGrange, Indiana with other Amish families to start a new settlement. Davey befriends the new neighbor, Cap, and has his heart set on making him his new friend and dad. As Davey works on his plan, a few scrapes and almost near tragedies almost derail the plan. Will Naomi and Cap fall in love to create the family Davey so desperately desires?

As I mentioned before the book had its slow spots but it is a book I would recommend to others. The history woven into the story is very interesting. I also found it interesting as I have visited the modern day LaGrange, Indiana to see the Amish and I found it fascinating to learn about how it started.

This is the third book in a series. I have not read the first two but have put them on my list of books to read.

The perfect read for the busy woman on the go. The chapters are short enough to read while waiting for the doctor, picking up kids from sports and waiting in the grocery store line. Beware, you will laugh out loud probably at the most inappropriate moments. Between Lisa and Francesca every woman will find something they relate to in their stories.

My favorite line in the book: “…when we all know that the one and only aphrodisiac is a man volunteering to build you some bookshelves.” Finally, someone who gets me. Build me some bookshelves and I will love you forever. Come to think of it, I think that is how my husband got me.

The Identicals by Elin Hilderbrand

I fell in love with Elin Hilderbrand through her Winter series and am working my way through the rest of her books. Her love of Nantucket shines through her writing and because of that I want to visit every summer. What better way that her books. Put on your favorite flip flops with your beach hat, grab a drink, and sit in the sun. You won’t be disappointed.

Harper and Tabitha are identical twins who have lived on separate islands, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard since they were 18. For the last fourteen years they haven’t spoken or acknowledged one another. Tragic circumstances have caused them to speak and for the summer they decide to switch lives. Will they find themselves and back to one another this summer?

I couldn’t put this book down. I wanted to read by flashlight as my hubby slept just so I could learn what happened next.

If you are looking for a beach read that is not set in the south this is the book for you.
