The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau

Do you have a piece of jewelry that means the world to you? One of mine is the bracelet my late Aunt Nancy gave me after my mama passed. Now when I wear it I think of her and my mama doing all the sisterly things in heaven. It makes me feel closer to them.

In @kristinharmel ‘s newest book, The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau centers around a pair of one of a kind bracelets from WWII. The story alternates chapters from 2018 America and the 1940s Paris. Mainly from Colette’s perspective but a few others as well.

A beautiful, poignant story that will once again make you realize we will never fully understand the terror of WWII.

If you are local, I highly suggest you visit the @bcplinsta exhibit The Americans and the Holocaust a partnership between the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the American Library Association. Plan to spend a bit of time. It is well worth the drive if you aren’t local.

Death in the Willows by Gwenn Wright

Y’all…how to you review a book that has left you speechless? I need to know the rest of the story right now!

This is my 2nd visit to Wallace County. I have enjoyed watching Dacie Mae, investigative reporter, grow in her skill.

In Death in the Willows, Dacie Mae has made a huge life decision that she needs to discuss with her mama. In order to put it off just a bit longer she agrees to a picnic with a high school friend. Unbeknownst to them their night is about to change. A body has been found and Dacie Mae is off to find the scoop.

The story flowed beautifully. I found myself riveted to the book and when I would finally look up I would be surprised I wasn’t in the woods of Missouri on a hot sticky day.

Talk about being hot let’s visit Hank the lawman. Shew whee he is a long, tall drink of water. He is in this story just long enough to make you want more. You can just hear his deep, soothing voice and feel his arms wrapping you in a hug.

I didn’t figure out the who did what until the great reveal but I had an inkling. I was shocked by why the person did what they did. (Read the book!)

I have heard there are more book coming in this series. It is the perfect time to grab your copies and visit Dacie Mae and Hank.

Other books in the series: Under the Magnolia and Holler’s Grove. I know they are available on the big A but not sure where else you can get a copy. While you are at it ask your library to order copies.

If You’ve Got It, Haunt It by Rose Presley

I surprised myself with really enjoying this paranormal cozy mystery. I have found this is a subgenre I really have to focus on and find the right fit.

I am not a fashionista but I enjoyed the tips on buying vintage clothing.

I am interested to see if Charlotte is the ghost that follows Cookie Chanel around or if each book will be a different ghost attached to a vintage clothing item.

I also want to learn more about Detective Dylan. So far he has much potential.

Side note: isn’t the shirt my brother and SIL got me perfect? 🤩 I can’t wait to wear it.

The Intruder by Frieda McFadden

This may be the best book yet by Frieda McFadden.

Edge of your seat, no draggy parts, and what a twist!

Are you safe alone, with no phone, no near neighbors during a torrential thunderstorm? What would you do if you saw a face staring at you through the window? Do you invite danger in?

The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick

Another excellent book club pick from author Brenda Novak. I’m a few months behind in reading the book. It felt like the perfect book for me to read as summer changed to fall as this book is all about changes.

An unlikely group of four women in the American 1960s who form a book club. Their first book is The Feminine Mystique and it arouses change in the women. We follow them through these changes and what a ride it is.

I learned so much about how women were viewed and treated. Can you imagine not having your own checking account in your own name? How about not being able to get a prescription for birth control without your husband coming to the doctor and signing for it? Or not even being able to buy your own home?

I am all for women who love staying home and raising their children but I also am thankful as women we can do all the things above on our OWN.

This is a great book club book as many discussions can be had from it.

The Tattered Cover by Ellery Adams

This series is my top favorite cozy mystery series. The friendship, the books, and the food. It evokes the vision of an idyllic world minus the murder. What’s a little murder thrown in?

The book opens in Halloween season and to celebrate Nora holds an author event on Halloween with a world renowned psychic. Unfortunately, the psychic didn’t foresee her own demise.

As the seasons change, Nora and friends try to solve the case but not without hurt feelings and plenty of stress.

All of us EA fans know she can throw us for a loop. There is one part of the story that I was reading while walking on the treadmill and I found myself almost running (and this girl does NOT run). I had to stop reading because I needed seclusion in case I was going to cry. (I still haven’t got over a certain character’s death in another one of her series.)

What section had me running and gasping for air do you ask? I’m not telling. Get your copy of The Tattered Cover from your favorite book dealer on October 28,2025 to find out. Even better, preorder NOW.

Happy Readingween friends.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. The above is my own words. I was not paid nor was it required for me to leave a positive review.

A Perilous Plot by Lorna Barrett

Hmm…how do I review the latest in the Booktown Mystery series???

It wasn’t terrible but at the same time it wasn’t exciting. In the last few books there has been a shift in the series that doesn’t jive with me. I can only describe saying the tone of the books feels dark and heavy.

I love Miss Marple and she rarely shows up in this book.

In book 19 of the series Trisha and Angelica must deal with their mother. Trisha also has to deal with Becky, the police chief’s fiancé and past tennis star. Put that together and who would be happy. Both are people who think they are entitled to everything.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job. If I’m honest it’s probably the only reason I didn’t DNF.

If It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia

The GG vibes are small Vermont town and a girl who loves coffee. It was the perfect treadmill book. I would get so lost reading 45 minutes passed like 5 minutes.

A friend who also read the book said Michelle was like Luke in GG (grumpy) and Cliff was like Lorelai (sunshine). She nailed it.

The epilogue had me in tears.
