Her Forbidden Christmas Match by Emma Miller

This was a different Amish book than I’ve read before. I enjoyed the story and the differences than my typical Amish read.

After the death of his wife in Paraguay, Aaron has returned to Delaware with his daughter. He is running from grief and a church he doesn’t agree with regarding their beliefs. He is unsure of where he should settle and what he should do for work. He is sure that he never wants to live again or belong to a church that dictates his life.

Willa is a headstrong and impulsive Amish woman. Willa watches Aaron leave his daughter in the car as he starts a new job helping with the addition on the store. An infuriated Willa marches right outside to her future.

Can Willa and Aaron find common ground to make a life together?

This is the fifth book in a series. I didn’t realize that until I looked into the author. I had no trouble following along with the characters. I am interested in reading the series.

How My Neighbor Stole Christmas by Meghan Quinn

An enjoyable romantic spoof of the Grinch. A bit spicy and I will never look at a candy cane so innocently again.

Storee returns to Kringletown with her sister in order to help her aunt heal after a broken hip. Ten years before Storee left in a rush after a disastrous day not realizing her friend Cole had just received the worst news. Unfortunately for her running into Cole on her first day back starts a rivalry for the towns most Christmas Kringle. As the Kringle events heat up with competition so does the passion.

You have grumpy/sunshine with fake dating and lots of spice.

A Heart for Christmas by Sophie Jomain

There have been many, many bad reviews regarding A Heart for Christmas. I enjoyed the book.

I think some readers forgot the fact or didn’t realize it is a Teen/Young Adult novel not a spicy grown up novel. It was translated from another language so it will have a few awkward moments with language flow. The biggest is also which edition you received. The blue cover edition is not filled with grammatical and editing errors as the red edition.

I will say I enjoyed letting a few days build and read more chapters at a time. It made me feel more connected to the story.

April’s experience reminds us that life is fleeting and can change in a heartbeat. We need to live each day to the fullest and so forgiveness and love as much as we can.

The House on Prytania by Karen White

I love when I guess something correctly in a story before it is revealed. I almost couldn’t focus on the other storylines because I continuously kept mulling over my thoughts.

Nola is still working on her home renovation and ghosts are still haunting her and the home. She knows who they are but not why they are haunting her except that one ghost did in fact live at the home. Her immediate family comes for a visit which gives her more insight into the ghosts.

This is a series you do need to read in order. If you don’t you will be lost on who is who and their why. I wish I had read the series before this one to understand even more.

An Amish Bookshop Courtship by Patricia Johns

A joyful holiday read that reminds us love and forgiveness are what makes the world a happy place.

Jesse has returned home after the death of his father to close his father’s bookshop. He has also returned home to his best friend, Fannie, who he hurt deeply when he left 3 years ago.

Fannie is full of forgiveness and is happy Jesse has returned until she realizes he is only back through the holiday season.

Fannie needs Jesse and Jesse needs Fannie but can they both get what they want?

What a perfect trio for my reading heart: Amish, books, and Christmas. I loved reading this book by the light of the Christmas tree while we had unusual early snows this past two weeks. Fannie is a wonderful character and I hope we get glimpses of her in future books. She is confident, strong, and forgiving. Such important characteristics to have in a world full of uncertainty.

This is the second book in the Amish Chocolate shop series but definitely can be read as a standalone.

Merry Murder Season by Lynn Cahoon

A long running series that still provides entertainment and a satisfying mystery.

Merry Murder Season is the eighteenth installment in the Tourist Trap cozy mystery series. Jill is settling into marriage and they are hosting Greg’s family for Thanksgiving. Greg’s brother, Jim, and his fiancé are in town and Jim is being Jim. Unfortunately Jim being Jim is causing his fiancé, Beth, to question if marriage is right for them. Beth stays on after the holiday and finds herself helping Jill solve a murder of a neighboring business owner.

There was much to unpack in this holiday mystery and it has provided many opportunities for excitement in hopefully future books. I did enjoy the break from Jill’s stalwart aunt. She is a great character but one a break is needed for every so often.

You can read each book as a standalone but it truly is best in order so you can appreciate the growth of characters through the years.

Winter’s Awakening by Shelley Shepard Gray

A beautiful story to reminds us that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes we find out that reason quickly and other times it takes a bit.

Gretta and Joshua have been sweethearts long enough that the community is expecting to hear a wedding announcement. Gretta is stunned when Joshua decides they need a break instead. As Gretta deals with the disappointment with her family, Joshua is spending more time with the new neighbor, Lilly. Has the life Gretta dreamed of with Joshua been derailed and should she agree to go courting with another?

I felt for Gretta. She has a harder home life than others realize with parents who argue a lot and not so quietly. Her mother is also what we call a helicopter mom. Always in Gretta’s business and never holds back her thoughts and feelings toward a situation.

If you are a seasonal reader this is the perfect time to pick up this 4 book series. A book for each season.

This morning’s snow provided the perfect backdrop for my review.

His Amish Wife’s Hidden Past by Mindy Steele

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to read Hannah’s story on how she became Amish with her three little girls. I already loved Daniel, the Amish dad, from Courting Daniel’s Daughter (Catherine’s story) and Saving Daniel’s Daughter (Rosemary’s story).

Imagine having to flee with your three young daughters to a new city and state, an entire new way of living and by the end of the night being married. This was Hannah’s story.

An emotional read that ends at Thanksgiving so an appropriate holiday read.

If you are like me and have found you have almost read all of @shelley.s.gray Amish books then @mindyesteele is your next author. I know Shelley would approve!
