I adored this book and even more so once I read the afterword. A fictional story set during WWII on Martha’s Vineyard but loosely based on actual events and history. A dual timeline but the majority is set in the 1940s.
A book for anyone who enjoys historical fiction and strong female characters.
A new to me #cozymysteryseries from @julieannehatcher that I read and listened to over the past few weeks.
Let me say if you are friends with Patience Price you need a bullet proof vest and a paid up health insurance policy. Enter into the friendship at your own risk!
Plus her parents shop is called The Purple Pony and I couldn’t help but sing The Pink Pony Club song every single time.
Oh, this book almost made it to the most favorite of the Abby books. The Friend Zone is still in the top spot by a hair.
Briana and Jacob’s story will melt the hardest of hearts. The raw, open emotion of Jacob makes one realize men go through the same insecure we women do. Lieutenant Dan, Jacob’s dog, could have been a scene stealer if given the chance.
Be prepared for lots of laughs but keep the tissues near.
All the stars for a perfect book and a perfect day!
We will start with I was panicked when I realized this was due back to Libby at 10:29 tonight! I mentioned to hubby and he said to take the day and read. And I did. I don’t remember the last time I read a 400+ page book in one day.
This book was perfect. Enemies ➡️ Friends ➡️ Lovers. I connected with Josie on many levels except for one. I love reading romance books and I’m not ashamed to say so. Always have and always will. My love for romance novels came from my mamaw and mama. They loved those “bodice rippers.” I can see my papaw “Cuba what the heck are you reading? It’s got a half naked man on the cover!” Her response, “oh you hush now Ray.”
The banter between Josie and Ryan/RJ was entertaining. You just wanted to keep reading to see what would be said next.
There is spice in the last part and it is 🥵🌶️. Let’s just say Ryan puts his reading to good use. 🤣.
Thank you sweetheart for knowing what I needed today. You always do.
This book was emotional. You will experience anger, laughter, hope, and sadness. Without giving a spoiler there will be a chapter that will have you sobbing. If it doesn’t then check your heart it may be broken.
Alexis finds herself back in 2002 which was the end of one direction of her life and the beginning of a new direction. She quickly realizes she wants to change her life for the better. Unfortunately, she has to figure out who the problem is. Is it Lexi, her college self, or Alexis, the struggling adult.
I’m not ok after THE chapter I mentioned before. Excuse me while I go sob in private.
Another winner for me. I’m rolling through the Abby books this summer.
A sweet and romantic take on the trope rich girl and poor boy fall in love.
The opening scene is hilarious. You have spanx, a raccoon, and an almost deserted town. Alexis finds herself immediately falling in love with Daniel knowing their worlds will never mesh. Daniel has no clue who she really is and finds himself dreaming of a happily ever after. Can they make it work?
First I suggest reading Abby’s books in order as there are Easter eggs to previous books in each one. Some are(or were to me) light bulb moments. The sign up for Abby’s newsletter to get the chapter that bridges the books Life’s Too Short and this one. Chef’s kiss of a bridge!
I will admit when I read the first few pages I wasn’t sure if I would like it. It didn’t grab me but then it did and my stars was I hooked. This book will tear your heart out, wring it every which way, put it back in and repeat.
Early on Jewel’s character frustrated and angered me. She has so many secrets. Talk about a stressful life trying to keep them straight. I don’t envy those that live their life that way. Secrets take so much out of you and they always come out.
Shelby seemed so content to live her life hiding behind others whether it was a friend or her daughter. I enjoyed watching her bloom.
I have so much I want to say but I don’t want to ruin the book with any spoilers. Let yourself fall into this magnificent story and soak it in.
Thank you Brenda Novak Book Club for bring this book to my attention.
Oh this prequel was such fun. It is my second favorite almost my top favorite of the four prequels.
Georgie is a delight. Nothing scares her and she is so curious and inquisitive. How unfair she lives in a time when women weren’t allowed to do anything without a male around. She is a force to be reckoned with! Nicholas is the perfect match. Content with who he is and ready to let his match be a partner in every way.
I did get the audiobook just to hear the narrator read the cat parts. Hilarious! It was funny reading but listening was so much better. Cathead is a phenomenal character. Grumpy cat had nothing on Cathead.
I do think reading the prequels will make the Bridgerton series much more interesting.
An enjoyable visit with Charlie, Helen, and Diesel. In this addition to the series we get to join Charlie and Helen on their honeymoon to Ireland. Unfortunately, it is not all fun and relaxation. Helen’s Uncle Finn dies suddenly and it’s not an innocent death. Charlie has been asked by the family to help solve the crime.
This book was enjoyable and a refreshing entry. Seeing Charlie outside of Mississippi was interesting. He has wanderlust in his veins from all the books he has read. He is a relatable character as he loves traveling but can’t wait to get home to those near and dear to him.
I took my time reading as I know I have a bit of a wait for our next book.
